{"id":494,"date":"2009-11-03T08:49:15","date_gmt":"2009-11-02T22:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brigidtreloar.com.au\/blog\/?p=494"},"modified":"2021-02-08T22:53:29","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T12:53:29","slug":"kumara-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brigidtreloar.com.au\/blog\/2009\/11\/03\/kumara-bread\/","title":{"rendered":"Kumara bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"top\" \/>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>On ABC NSW radio<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3>Recipe thanks to Breville and made in a Breville Bread Maker.\u00a0See <em>\u2018Notes\u2019<\/em> below if no bread maker is available.<\/h3>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">KUMARA <\/span>(ORANGE SWEET POTATO) <span style=\"color: #008000;\">BREAD<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3>Cooking time: 1 hr 40 mins\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Setting: YEAST FREE (7)<\/h3>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Liquid ingredients<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>175ml \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 buttermilk<\/h3>\n<h3>2 tablespoons \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 golden syrup<\/h3>\n<h3>250g\/1 cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 orange sweet potato (kumara), cooked, drained and mashed<\/h3>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Dry ingredients<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>450g\/3 cups\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 white bread flour<\/h3>\n<h3>1 teaspoon \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 bread improver<\/h3>\n<h3>1\/2 teaspoon \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 salt<\/h3>\n<h3>6 teaspoons\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 baking powder<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>It is very important to add ingredients in the order they are listed.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Remove bread pan from the machine and lock the collapsible blade in place.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Add liquid ingredients to the bread pan.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Sift dry ingredients together and add to bread pan. Wipe spills from outside of bread pan. Lock bread pan into baking chamber.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Press \u2018Select\u2019 button to setting \u201c7\u201d (Yeast Free Bread).<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Press \u2018Start\u2019.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>With machine still running, use a plastic spatula to scrape mixture from the sides, corners and base of bread pan.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>After ingredients have mixed together well, close the lid and leave the bread machine to complete the program.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>After baking, press \u2018Stop\u2019.\u00a0 Remove bread pan from the machine and turn bread onto a rack to cool.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Notes:<\/span> To make bread without a bread making machine<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\"> Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl or on a clean kitchen bench. Make a shallow hole in the centre of the ingredients and pour combined liquid ingredients in. Knead until combined. Cook in a greased loaf tin in a moderate oven (180\u00b0C) for about 1 hour or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tips: <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Substitute or add mashed pumpkin. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Add chopped glace ginger or ground ginger, nutmeg or cinnamon could be added to this recipe. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For best results, have all ingredients at room temperature. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yeast free bread is a simple bread and is made using baking powder as the main raising agent.
