According to ‘make-your-own yoghurt’ , EasiYo ( www.easiyo.com.au ):
Bloating can be a sign of lactose intolerance
The cells that line the small intestine produce lactase, an enzyme that breaks down milk sugar into simpler forms that can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
However, many people don’t produce enough lactase to process the amount of lactose consumed, causing discomfort when they consume products like milk, yoghurt, cream or ice-cream.
Symptoms of lactose intolerance include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, excess phlegm and diarrhoea.
| It is estimated that 75% of adults worldwide have lactose intolerance. |
Symptoms tend to come on between 30 minutes and two hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose. The severity of symptoms varies, depending on the amount of lactose each individual can tolerate.
Calcium is essential in our diet, and a deficiency can lead to osteoporosis, so it’s vital that you have enough.
Adults need 1000-1300mg of calcium per day and children need 700-1300mg depending on their age.
